04|13|09   US Tour: The Factory – Rochester, MI (April 7th, Day 5)

Rochester, Michigan.
Rochester, Michigan.

Rochester, Michigan, is a cute little town right outside of Detroit. We were playing a venue there called The Factory, which was a really, really cool venue. The performance area was small room, with hard-wood floors and high ceilings. The place just a great vibe about it, helped, not in small part, by having a bright yellow garage door as the entrance!

04|11|09   US Tour: Photoblog – Chicago, IL (April 6th, Day 4)

So after the Sunday night show in Chicago, Evan and I were glad to have a day off. We spent most of the day cruising around downtown Chicago, taking the train around the loop, walking down to Navy Pier, going shopping on Michigan Ave. (nicknamed the “magnificent mile”), and having Potbellys for lunch.

A shot of an alley lodged in between two skyscrapers.

Chicago is a beautiful city. I used to live there for about 5 1/2 years, whilst studying music composition and philosophy at Northwestern University. I wasn’t always happy in Chicago, but I have a huge amount of nostalgic love for the town and the life I lead there. Perhaps, then, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me that I was ever-so-slightly starting to tear up as we slowly weaved our way through the breathtaking skyscrapers to the sound of Eluvium’s Copia.

04|08|09   US Tour: EP Release Show – Madison, WI (April 4th, Day 2)

Madison Skyline.
Madison Skyline.

People always ask us “so where do you play next?” Whenever we would mention Madison, Wisconsin, everyone told us “you’ll love Madison!”, followed by an epic story of drinking and partying. When we arrived in Madison on Saturday afternoon, we pulled up to the house, and I quietly thought: “Oh shit. What have we gotten ourselves into.”

04|08|09   US Tour: Simple Days – Bloomington, IL (April 3rd, Day 1)

Simple Days house in Bloomington, IL.

Bloomington, Illinois, is quite charming really. A tad sleepy, a few small colleges in the area, with its fair share of American suburbanite residents. Apparently, Bloomington is host to a reputable Shakespeare festival, was ranked by Forbes as one of the 25 smartest communities in the United States, based on the college degrees of its citizens, has some choice golf courses, and it lies in one the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the US.

Evan and I arrived about an hour early in Bloomington, but since Mapquest totally stuffed us on the actual street address, we were quite glad we had a few extra minutes to find the house we were playing at (Mapquest placed the house a few blocks away from where it actually stood, confusing the living daylights out of us).

03|30|09   Enright House interview on Kiwi FM about SXSW

Did a lovely interview on the Radio Wammo show for Kiwi FM, talking about SXSW and the upcoming tour. From the Radio Wammo blog:

Mark Roberts has been living out of a suitcase and touring the world with his band The Enright House, sharing his music with as many people as possible. That includes the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. I caught up with Mark on the way out from Austin heading to New Orleans. The band had a pretty tough show, but for Mark the best time was had watching some great musicians and cutting through the big industry nonsense.

03|27|09   Memphis Part 1: The Gibson Factory Tour

The Gibson Factory in Memphis, Tennessee.

Evan and I arrived in Memphis mid-afternoon, just in time to go visit the Gibson Guitar Factory. Both of us were really looking forward to this, as I actually play a Gibson Les Paul, myself, and Evan works for a New Zealand music store, and sells them. So yeah, this was clearly going to be pretty cool, we thought.

03|24|09   Impromptu show at the India House and random travel funnies

Tomorrow night, Tuesday 24th of March, we’re playing a short set at the India House in New Orleans. The show is free, and goes from 7.30-8.30PM. If you have friends who live in NOLA let them know to come down. Show is free, the India House is totally rad, and there’s going to be southern-style BBQ, as well! Fun! :)

03|23|09   Crossing from Texas into Louisiana

Been on the road for about 6 hours. Had an interview with Kiwi FM earlier today for the breakfast show back in New Zealand. Really nice talking to people back home…

Anyhow, Evan and I are just crossing into Louisiana now. We’ll be taking another one of our little detours soon. Instead of taking the main highway to New Orleans (aka NOLA) we’re going to hop onto the old US-90, which is commonly referred to as the Route 66 of the South. Not really sure what to expect. More photos and post-SXSW updates coming as well, soon.

03|23|09   Explosions In The Sky at SXSW 2009

The fireworks at the end of EITS's set.
The fireworks at the end of EITS’s set.

So, SXSW is pretty much done now – at least for us. Some people are staying on for today, but there isn’t much happening anymore, and, truth be told, I’ve just about had all I can take of it anyhow :).

I’ll be writing more about my general impressions and our experience at SXSW over the next few days (don’t expect it to be a glowing review, though), but for now I would just like to gush a bit about seeing one of my favorite bands play live last night! :)
