03|20|09   SXSW Showcase at the Soho Lounge

So yesterday was our SXSW showcase at the soho lounge. I think, all in all, it went rather well, but it was a really, really tough show to play! Here’s why:

Mark, the stage manager, warned us to arrive early for load-in (which was at 6 PM), so we left the house at 10 minutes past 5. We had a mere 6 blocks to traverse from where we’re staying, so, naturally, we figured we were going to be there plenty early. Little did we know the street we were playing on (6th street) was the epicenter of SXSW and the whole road was closed by the police – zero exceptions. It took us another hour to go around the block to come up from a side street.

So right after we finally get near enough to the venue to unload, a crew of roughly 4 people helps us load in and so in no time we are setting up. The venue itself was alright, but all the speakers were on one side (my side), so I think a lot of people had trouble seeing me properly.

Which brings me to the next point…

My pants. Whilst setting up my pedals, I kneel down, my foot accidentally stepping on the bottom of one of the pant legs, and my knee extending. The result? One giant (!) rip right down the inner right thigh of my pants… all the way right up past the crotch zipper. Ha. I tell you, that was truly and deeply embarrassing!!

So we’re super stressed out from the driving, we had to rush setup, I have a huge speaker tower in front of my face, there is a big rail in front of the stage separating us from the stage, and people can see my black undies and my entire inner thigh.

Aside from all that, and the usual innocent mistakes, we did rather well, I think!

However: *sigh* :)

Yay! Check out the new Enright House Shop I just finished making! Even if you’re not the type of person who buys music anymore, do take a look at how pretty and shiny it is! :)

Knowing the music of Mark and Evan, I know that the audience was treated to a wonderful, memory filled performance! Just can’t wait for the Chicago performance. Can’t wait!!!!
